Picture frame arrangement ideas!

We have all seen the beautiful wall of framed photos.  It may not be as easy as it looks to create the perfect layout....that is until now!  As I was cruising Pinterest...(do that a bit too frequently nowadays!) and found this wonderful layout article!  Unfortunately there was no credit link.  I will continue to look for the original post but for now I had to share!

Once you have chosen your layout, use craft paper or brown paper rolls from your local home improvement store and cut out the correct sized squares and adhere them to your wall.  Once you are happy with the layout find the center and simply hammer your nails into the wall thru the paper itself.  :)

EASY PEASY!!!!!!  Please feel free to share any other tips you have for hanging your artwork!  I would love to hear them~

Small Laundry spaces!

Like many of you, my laundry area is in a wonderfully tiny hall closet!  I have the itch to do something with it.  Here are some wonderful design ideas where a small closet has been transformed into a beautiful inviting area.  I may even start enjoying doing my laundry!  (I will let you know when I actually put these ideas to work!)  I absolutely love the first one!  The doors in front of the washer and dryer are a perfect way to hide the appliances.

Clean it out! Get organized in 2012!

We all do it!  Hold on to things that we think we need, but don't really have a place for! Eventually we find ourselves surrounded by these things that start to clutter our homes and eventually our lives.
If you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed out take a look at what is around you?  What is your living environment like?  Is it tidy, organized and manageable?  If not, this could be a huge part what is causing underlined stress in your life.  Many times people are so overwhelmed with their lack of organization that they don't do it at all.  DON'T let it overwhelm you!  You just need to follow a few simple steps to get started and be successful.

Step 1-  If so why?  Pin point how your current state of organization has affected your life.  Understanding the why is an important part of achieving long term success because it helps you recognize the consequences that being unorganized has caused in your life.  You will find that the lack of organization costs you time, money and sometimes can be a health risk.

Step 2- Write it down.  What is your overall goal?  If it is to clean your entire house, write that down but don't let it overwhelm you. Every goal will be broken down several times to make it doable.

Step 3- Make a plan. Be realistic. Don't expect everything to change overnight.  It took awhile to create the clutter, it will take some time to organize it.  Where do you want to start?  Choose a room that has the least amount of work.  This will help you see quicker results and keep you motivated.  Each room is a project in itself.   Take each project and write down what you want to happen in that room.  If you start in a bathroom, identify individual projects in the bathroom and set small goals for each individual project.

For example:

Overall goal- CLEAN AND ORGANIZE THE HOUSE

BREAKDOWN-
Bathroom-
       Organize-
       Vanity-
       Medicine Cabinet-

       Clean-
       Tub
       Tile
       Toilet
       Sink
       Floor

Do this in each room.  If you have a desire to redecorate, hold off until you have your overall goal completed.  You will find it is much easier and less daunting to do an entire overhaul on a room if the rest of your house is clean and organized.  It will also help you save money in the long run because you will be able to better prioritize your redecorating projects and possibly re-purpose items that you might have.  However, DO NOT HANG ONTO THINGS YOU DON'T NEED!
A general rule of thumb is if you haven't used it in 1 year, it should go!  So many times we are afraid to get rid of things because we think we might need it someday.  Get rid of it anyway.  The cost of being unorganized is much more than it will most likely cost you to replace an item you find you need down the road.  Better yet, if you find you use an item only once every few years, don't buy it, barrow it from a friend or family member or rent it if it is an item that can be rented.

As you go through each room, have 2 containers available to put your items in.  One labeled "KEEP" and one labeled "Throw out".  Be honest with yourself.  It does no good to talk yourself into keeping things you don't need.  You will just end up in the same situation you started with.  Quickly get rid of the items in the "Throw out" container so that you don't convince yourself to start pulling things out of it.  Once you have decided what you are keeping, organize them into categories.  For example, if you are organizing your bathroom vanity, purchase small baskets to put in the vanity.  Use different baskets for different items.  One basket for hair products, one for face products, one for curling irons, hair dryers etc.  Keep it simple.  Don't have 12 different baskets, just group like items together.   This will help you KEEP things organized because they will always have a home.  Be consistent. It only takes a couple seconds to place your items back in the correct place, but saves hours of time it would take to reorganize!

YOU CAN DO IT!  Just remember to break it all down and keep it realistic.  If you only have 20 minutes a day, just do 20 minutes.  Choose one drawer, one shelf, or one container to work on at a time.  It will create a sense of accomplishment rather than discouragement because you didn't organize the entire room.  It's OK for you to take a couple weeks to organize a single room.  It's your timeline.  Do however have a end date in sight.  Otherwise you may never cross the finish line.

You can do it!  Choose to change your life today!

Bring some calm to your life!

It's a new year and I am looking forward to some new projects! For now I thought I would post a couple ideas to help you start off the year with your best foot forward with a bit or organizing! It can be very overwhelming and daunting but if you keep it simple it feels much more doable. Begin by making a list of 5 things you would like to organize and start small. This means choose something like a single closet, cupboard, desk, etc. Make a goal to conquer the item one each week. If you can do more then go for it but do not overwhelm yourself! Set aside 15 minutes each day to work on the project. Don't empty the entire closet out at once. Choose one shelf, your shoes or a single drawer and spend your 15 minutes organizing it. If you stick to this VERY simple plan you will find that you can accomplish these goals with little effort and time.

If you are more aggressive and would like to knock out a lot at once, make a plan. Do ONE room at a time. Once you decide which room to focus on, work on one area at a time. Have several bins handy to help you organize items that need to be placed somewhere else. Have a "donate" and "trash" bin as well. Don't hang onto things that you "might" use someday. Its clutter in your life that you don't need. You will find a sense of freedom when you can purge unnecessary items that are taking up useful space!

A great way to help keep your home organized is to find a place in your home that can be a home base for a bin or basket for each person. Use these baskets to place items that are sitting around the house and need to be put away. If you keep up on the pick up portion of your home it will avoid an unnecessary buildup of messes and clutter. Have each person empty and put away the items in their basket each night.

Organizeit.com is a great place to find organizing trays, boxes etc. to help you get your closets and drawers organized. You can also stop by your local Target or WalMart stores for similar items. Be sure to take your drawer or shelf measurements with you including the depth!

Contain the clutter!

We all have a corner where we have misc. stuff just sitting around. Contain it! It will make the area look intentional. Find a cute basket, or decorative container. I used an antique replica wire farm basket here. I added some decorative items to improve the overall look. If you have several items that you don't want to look at consider using a decorative box with a lid. Consider containing your books, toys or other various items you have sitting on shelves or dressers.

The cute pictures of the baskets that I have posted here are from Hulla Baloo home decor

Monthly calendar

Here is a fun way to keep your family organized! This is an easy way to personalize your family's monthly calendar. Simply take framed glass and apply the vinyl calendar to the glass. The calendar can be customized with your family name, a cute quote or fun graphics and embellishments! Next date the calendar and write the month on the top line with a dry erase marker. It can be used and reused all year long! (To make your own framed glass out of any regular frame see the instructions under family monograms.)
